NATCHITOCHES, La. - The Prairie View A&M softball team dropped a pair of contests to Northwestern State on Wednesday in Natchitoches, La.
In game one, Prairie View surrendered nine first inning runs and never got into a groove as Northwestern State won the opener 14-0.
After a 1-2-3 top of the first by PV, NSU hit two homers to break open the frame as they jumped out to a 9-0 lead. NSU scored in every inning from that point and was on the verge of no-hitting the Lady Panthers until Lauren Patterson and Artavia Woods tallied back-to-back hits in the fifth.
Brittanie Gardner was tagged with the loss as the sophomore pitched five innings with two strikeouts.
Game two was a mirror image of the first as PV allowed 10 runs in the first frame en route to a 12-0 loss.
The Lady Panthers had a chance to score in the first inning but stranded two runners in scoring positions with no outs as NSU regrouped with two strikeouts and a grounder to end the inning. The Lady Panthers began the bottom half on the wrong foot with a leadoff walk along with several passed balls and wild pitches en route to a 10-run deficit. PV never recovered from the early hole as NSU added two more runs in the fourth.
The Lady Panthers return to action on Friday as they host Huston-Tillotson in a 4 p.m. doubleheader at Prairie View.
