Lady Panthers Drop Decision to Northwestern State

Natchitoches, LA—Coming off a tough loss to Central Arkansas on Friday, September 10, the feisty Lady Panthers fell short in another tough bout in Louisiana to an all around balanced Northwestern State side, Sunday afternoon, with the final score of 6-0.

Northwestern State got clicking right from the whistle controlling the pace of the game with fine tuned passing around the pitch. Rachel O' Steen opened up the scoring attack with a goal in the 34th minute with a whistling shot from 15 yards outside the box that struck the top corner of the net claiming the early 1-0 lead.

Prairie View attempted for multiple counter attacks but was unfortunate at goal. Three minutes later Jeanette Coronel created an opportunity for herself scoring the second goal of the game her first of the season in the 37th minute as she took a long ball from Johnson and blasted it from ten yards out cracking the early two goal lead over the Lady Panthers. The Lady Panthers were able to hold defensively for the rest of the half as Northwestern continued to pressure the PVAMU back line.

The Lady Panthers struggled in the second half as it appeared as if NSU's conditioning began to show its advantage as PVAMU allowed an own goal in the 53rd minute to kick off the half falling behind 3-0.

NSU continued to pour it on Prairie View as Hailey Altenburg scored her first career goal in the 62nd minutes when she scored off a beautiful volley to make it 4-0 NSU. PV's defender Marrissa Woods attempted for a shot of her magic as she took a line drive shot attempt for goal but couldn't hit the target.

NSU wouldn't stop there as Haas scored her second goal of the season that began off a threw ball from Johnson that got behind the PVAMU back line to make it 5-0. Prairie View was looking for that spark but was unable to find it as NSU iced the game after a breakaway goal from Johnson that sealed the NSU victory with minutes left to play in the game.

Prairie View was out shot by a margin of 20-4 while having a loss of production of attempts on goal as the edge was 11-1.

The Lady Panthers look to bounce back from a their two toughest non-conference losses as they return to the field on Friday, Sep 17, as they travel to San Marcos to take on Texas State.
