UTSA Defends Home Turf With 3-0 Win Over Prairie View

BOX SCORE

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Prairie View A&M dropped a road match to Texas-San Antonio by a score of 3-0 on Tuesday night at the Convocation Center on the UTSA campus.

UTSA jumped ahead of Prairie View early in game one as they broke open a 2-2 tie into a 17-5 surge for a 25-9 opening set win.  The Lady Panthers began set two with another slow start and found themselves down 9-1 as they were besieged by errors and a hot UTSA offense.  UTSA extended its lead to double digits at one point but PV managed to hang tough as they trailed 18-10 following a block from junior Christine Ruckman.  However, UTSA broke away and closed out set two 25-13.

Prairie View fell behind early once again in the third set but battled back and closed to within six points on two occasions midway through the set.  The Roadrunners regrouped and went on a 7-0 run for a 23-10 advantage but PV refused to go away as they went on a 7-0 run of its own to draw within six points at 23-17.

The run would end there as UTSA's Allie Bettinger recorded a kill for a 24-17 lead followed by a PV attack error to end the contest.

Junior Breanna McNeil led PV with six kills and six digs followed by 16 assists and six digs from fellow junior Marie Moulaz.

Prairie View travels to Lake Charles, La. on Friday for the start of the McNeese State Invitational at 4 p.m. on Friday.
