Angie Guillory scorched the field on a cold Friday night in Prairie View with two goals in a 4-0 win over Southern for Prairie View A&M. With the win the Lady Panthers improved to 3-1 in the SWAC, but they still need Southern to upset Texas Southern on Sunday afternoon to get the No. 1 seed in the Western Division for the SWAC Tournament.
Prairie View A&M dominated from start to finish, outshooting the Lady Jaguars 17-4 and obviously winning the battle of points. Freshman forward Ariana Roundtree started the goal party off for Prairie View A&M in the 23rd minute. She scored off of a deflection and an assist by sophomore forward Gabriela Ramos.
Guillory scored her first goal of the game in the 41st minute off of a Debbie Arguelles assist to give the Lady Panthers a 2-0 lead heading into the half. Guillory struck again off of a penalty kick in the 87th minute following a hand ball call on Southern inside the box. Her shot hit the top of the cross bar and bounced in.
Maria Sanchez put the nail in the coffin with a goal in the final minute to give her team plenty of momentum heading into its final regular season game against Jackson State at 1 p.m. Sunday at home on the soccer field.
