The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team looks to bounce back from a sub-par shooting performance in a 57-42 loss suffered at the hands of Rice on Friday night by putting on a show in its home opener versus Stephen F. Austin on Tuesday evening in the William Nicks Building at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday's game marks the lone non-conference home game by the Lady Panthers until Sunday, Jan. 6 versus Texas Southern.
Despite a double-double performance by senior forward and SWAC Preseason Player of the Year Latia Williams, who finished with 10 points and 13 rebounds, the Lady Panthers only shot 28. 6 percent from the field and missed eight of their 12 free throws for an uncharacteristic 33 percent outing from the foul line on Friday versus Rice.
Williams was the only Lady Panthers player to turn in a double-digit scoring night, and third-year coach Toyelle Wilson will be looking for her and All-SWAC First Team guard Kiara Etienne, who averaged 13 points per game last season, to improve their offensive output. Etienne was Prairie View A&M's second-leading scorer on Friday with nine points, and the Lady Panthers will face a Stephen. F. Austin squad that dropped 80 points on Louisiana-Monroe in its season-opening win on Friday at home.
Tuesday's contest will be broadcast live on KPVU 91.3 FM and also on PANTHERVISION, the athletic department's official video streaming service.
