PV Women's Hoops Heads Into Northwestern State Hungry For Another Win

GAME NOTES

The Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers still have the taste of a 70-58 victory over future Big East member Memphis on their lips, but they enter Natchitoches
, La. tonight with a sense of urgency as they prepare for a rematch with Northwestern State at 5:30 p.m. in Prather Coliseum.

Northwestern State (4-3) surprised the Lady Panthers (1-4) last season by pulling out a 69-59 win in the William Nicks Building, Prairie View A&M's home court. Northwestern State has a new coaching staff in co-head coaches Brooke and Scott Stoehr, but Prairie View A&M looks to return the favor to the Lady Demons on their home court.

Double-Double machine Latia Williams, who is averaging 15.8 points and 10.4 rebounds, and Kiara Etienne, who is averaging 14.6 points, will surely have a vendetta to settle as they look to close out the home-and-home on a high note. Sophomore center Larissa Scott (10 ppg, 8 rpg) forms out the final piece of Prairie View A&M's big three. Each player was there on Nov. 29, 2011 when Northwestern State had five players score in double figures, led by Jordi James (15 points) and Jasmine Upchurch (14 points), to defeat Prairie View A&M. James has moved on, but Upchurch is the Lady Demons' leading scorer with 11.9 points and 6.1 rebounds per game this season.

The Lady Panthers are 0-6 All-time against Northwestern State, but Prairie View A&M head coach Toyelle Wilson, who is 0-1 versus the Lady Demons, looks to turn the tides tonight. Tuesday could also be historic for Williams. If she scores 16 points against Northwestern State she will reach the 1,000-point plateau. She is also 20 rebounds away from 600 rebounds.
