Lady Panthers Show No Mercy Against UAPB

BOX SCORE

PINE BLUFF, Ark. - Prairie View A&M couldn't have gotten off to a hotter start in its 72-52 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff Monday night at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.

The Lady Panthers lit Arkansas-Pine Bluff up during the first eight minutes of the first half, shooting a blazing 83.3 percent from the field including a 6-for-6 performance from three-point range.

A three-point shot from freshman point guard Jeanette Jackson gave the Lady Panthers a 28-6 lead which was the dagger used to deal an early death strike to a team they have outscored 351-to-181 over their last four games. Prairie View obviously cooled off after that early scoring rampage, finishing the first half shooting 60 percent from the floor and 52.9 percent from the field in the game.

However, that early blow was too much for Arkansas-Pine Bluff to overcome.

Led by a 19-point performance from junior guard Latia Williams, Prairie View A&M improved to 8-6 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play and 11-14 overall. The Lady Panthers actually had four players score in the double figures, including sophomore guard Michaela Burton. She scored her second 16-point game in three games, going 4-for-5 from downtown.

Kiara Etienne added 13 points, and Jackson finished with 11 points and two assists.

The Lady Panthers will play host to Alabama A&M at 3 p.m. Saturday in the William Nicks Building.
