GAME TWO BOX

PINE BLUFF, Ark. - Prairie View A&M won its third consecutive conference series to remain at the top of the SWAC West standings as they swept the series from Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday afternoon at the UAPB Softball Complex.

Jasmine Littles and Alissa Navarro combined for six RBIs as Prairie View A&M won the opener 11-4 over UAPB.

The Lady Panthers wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard as freshman Shontel Lopez hit an RBI single to bring home leadoff batter Katelyn Den Beste. Kelly Scruggs drove in Leanna Flores for a 2-0 lead which turned into a 4-0 margin as an error by UAPB allowed two more runs to cross home. UAPB answered PV's early surge with a three-run first to trail 4-3 entering the bottom of the second. The Lady Panthers overcame UAPB's surge with a three-run third which was highlighted by RBIs from Kiera Bridges and Navarro.

Ahead 7-3, the Lady Lions pulled to within 7-4 with a run in the fourth but PV put the game away in the fifth with a four-run effort highlighted by Littles' 3-RBI double.

Lopez, Scruggs and Navarro tallied two hits each with Navarro and Littles recording three RBIs each. Lauren Grun earned the win in relief after allowing only one hit.

After two convincing wins in the series, the Lady Panthers jumped out to a 3-0 lead but had to hold on for dear life in the seventh as they closed out the series with a 3-2 win.

A Katelyn Den Beste RBI single in the second moved the Lady Panthers on top 1-0. Prairie View returned to the scoreboard in the fourth for a 2-0 lead on Olivia Pace's RBI double before upping its lead to 3-0 on Kiera Bridges' RBI single.

UAPB scored twice in the fifth to draw within 3-2 and refused to go down easily in the seventh. With two outs, UAPB hit a single off reliever Nicole Gallardo and PV avoided the dreaded walk-off homer as UAPB's CeCe Kolsar hit a shot which turned foul at the last second at the left field foul pole. Kolsar ended up drawing a walk but PV came through in the clutch as Bridges made a solid defensive play at first to end the game.

Bridges finished 2-for-4 with an RBI while Meah Maddox improved to 3-2 on the season.. Gallardo came on in relief of Maddox in the sixth and picked up her first save of the year.

PV returns to action on Wednesday as they'll host Sam Houston State in a 5 p.m. doubleheader at Prairie View.
