The Lady Panthers will try to start their first win streak of the season as they play hosts to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Tuesday at 1 p.m. on the tennis courts.
Prairie View A&M laid waste to Jacksonville College just a week earlier in a 7-0 victory at home. The Lady Panthers set the pace with dominating performances in doubles to sweep all matches and take the doubles point.
The team of
Brittany Harrell and
Lerato Ndlovu defeated Maria Cornel and Britney Sibley 8-2.
Christine Ngo Gwodog and
Danielle Moore defeated Kerri Kurtpatrick and Kayle Hullet 8-1, while
Erika Bond and
Jade Daniels combined for an 8-0 win over Kelly Parker and Catlin Rewson. Sweeping the singles play, the Lady Panthers were led by Harrell, Gwodog and Ndlovu. Gwodog defeated Sibley 6-0 in the No. 3 slot, and Ndlovu dominated Kurtpatrick 6-0, 6-2. Harrell received a fight from Cornell as both players rallied late into the afternoon. Harrell won the first set 6-2 and then came away with a 7-5 victory in the second set to take the match.
The Lady Panthers have revenge on the mind looking back to last season's losses to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Islanders took down Prairie View A&M 7-0 at Prairie View and in Corpus Christi to sweep the series. The Lady Panthers' current Top 3 players
Brittany Harrell,
Lerato Ndlovu and
Christine Ngo Gwodog participated in those matches. They'll try to replace those losses with a few wins.
