GRAMBLING, La. –
Prairie View A&M withstood a barrage of punches by Grambling State on Monday night as Jeanette Jackson scored 29 points in a solid 72-61 road win inside the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.

Prairie View A&M came out of the gate on fire as they stormed out to a 27-9 lead with 8:45 remaining in the first half.  During the run, the Lady Panthers were at the top of their defensive game as they forced 11 turnovers while freshman Alexus Parker led a three-point shooting clinic with two of the team's four treys during that span.

With depth an issue for the Lady Panthers, fatigue began to sit in as they went scoreless during a four-minute span.  On the opposite end of the court, Grambling State found its second wind and trimmed its deficit down to 27-15 as they took advantage of an 0-for-4 PVAMU shooting slump.  Junior guard Jeanette Jackson put an end to her team's slump with a jumper but Grambling State kept charging as they closed its 16-4 run with a basket from Joanna Miller for a 31-25 PVAMU lead at the 55-second mark of the first half.

Once again Jackson saved the day for the Lady Panthers with a huge trey on the ensuing possession to up their lead to nine at 34-25 with 53 seconds remaining.  PVAMU was whistled for a foul several seconds later and GSU nailed two free throws to close within 34-27 but a jumper by Jackson with five seconds remaining sent PVAMU into the locker room on top 36-27.

Prairie View A&M, which sports an 18-1 mark against GSU since 2006 entering the contest, got off to a slow start in the second half as they shot 1-for-6 from the field coupled with an uncharacteristic five turnovers in the first five minutes.  On the other end of the court, Grambling State opened the second half with a vengeance as they put together a 14-4 run to claim its first lead (41-40) of the contest at the 14:53 mark.

Senior point guard LeReahn Washington hit one of two free throws to knot the contest at 41-all followed by consecutive baskets from Jackson and Gabrielle Scott to help PVAMU reclaim a 45-41 margin two minutes later.  From that point, the Lady Panthers lived on the edge as GSU tied the contest with 10:17 left but PVAMU fought back and went back up by two following Larissa Scott's layup.  The contest turned into a heavyweight title fight over the next few minutes as Prairie View A&M and Grambling State continued to trade baskets.  However, Prairie View A&M refused to relinquish its lead as they led by as much as six (63-57) with 5:20 left.

With 4:14 on the clock, GSU's Joanna Miller was fouled on a three-point attempt and hit all three attempts to draw the Lady Tigers within 63-60.  PVAMU missed a basket on the ensuing possession but dodged a huge bullet as GSU's Jasmine Godboldt missed two free throws.   Following the missed free throws, Jackson took over as she penetrated the paint for a layup followed by an Asha Hampton-Finch jumper off a Washington assist with 2:28 left.

Hampton-Finch came up big on the defensive end several seconds later with a huge block and after another missed GSU trey, Jackson scored a three-point play the old-fashioned way to up PVAMU's lead to 70-60.  The Lady Panthers held on from that point to earn their first road win of the 2013-14 campaign.

Jackson led the Lady Panthers with 29 points while recording five steals and two blocks in 38 minutes of action.  Gabrielle Scott added 15 points while Washington dished out four assists and seven points.

The Lady Panthers return home for a two-game homestand which begins on Saturday afternoon versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 3 p.m. inside the William Nicks Building on the PVAMU campus.
