Baseball Drops Three Straight To TSU

HOUSTON – Prairie View A&M had a rough weekend on the diamond as Texas Southern recorded a series sweep at MacGregor Park in Houston.

TSU 6, PVAMU 1

In game one, both teams finished with six hits but PVAMU struggled to score the timely run as TSU claimed a 6-1 win in the opener.

TSU crossed home a run in the first, fourth and fifth frames before PVAMU scored in the sixth on Christian Krushall's RBI double for a 3-1 deficit.  TSU broke the game open in the eighth with a three-run frame while the Panthers were held hitless over the final three innings.

Jonathan Mata suffered his third loss of the season as he lasted 4.1 innings.  Six players recorded hits for the Panthers with Krushall driving in the lone run.

TSU 7, PVAMU 4

PVAMU saw a three-run lead turn into a three-run deficit as TSU scored six unanswered runs over the final five innings for a 7-4 win in game two.

Dominiq Harris got things started for the Panthers with a two-run homer in the first but TSU answered with a run in the bottom frame to trail 2-1.  Colby Hines homered in the second for a 3-1 lead followed by Greg Salcido's RBI single which scored Cody Den Beste, who reached on a triple.

Leading 4-1, the Panthers saw the game slip away in the fourth as TSU opened with a RBI double followed by an RBI single and a three-run homer to lead 6-4.  TSU added another run in the sixth for a 7-4 lead and held off a late Panther charge as they left two runners on in the eighth.

A.J. Helms fell to 1-4 on the season while Den Beste and Salcido led the way with a pair of hits.

TSU 9, PVAMU 1

PVAMU surrendered seven runs over the first three innings as TSU closed out the series with a 9-1 win.

The Panthers left three runners on in the first and paid for it as TSU scored four runs in the bottom frame for a 4-0 lead.  Den Beste drove in a run for a 4-1 deficit but TSU jumped ahead 7-1 with a three-run third.

PVAMU matched TSU's production at the plate in terms of hits but struggled to drive in runs as they left a total of 10 runners on base.

The Panthers travel to Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas on Wednesday evening.
