Grambling State overcame a four-run deficit and scored nine unanswered runs to claim an 11-6 win in the opener.
PVAMU went up 4-0 in the second as Christian Krushall hit a sacrifice fly followed by Colby Hines' two-run homer. Cody Den Beste rounded out the scoring with an RBI double which brought home Walter Wells.
Grambling State tied the contest at 4-all in the third behind a five-hit performance and went up 7-4 following a three-run fifth. The deficit grew to 9-4 after the sixth as GSU scored on an RBI single and a PVAMU throwing error. A homer by Dominiq Harris and Grant Dougherty's sacrifice fly gave the Panthers their fifth and sixth runs but it was too little too late as the Tigers closed out the opener with the win.
Jonathan Mata dropped to 3-5 on the season with the loss while Robert Cossey finished with a 3-for-5 outing at the plate.

A sacrifice fly by Harris led to the first run of the game for the Panthers in the first followed by an RBI from Cody Den Beste and Grant Dougherty 's run via wild pitch. The Panthers broke it open in the third with a four-run frame as Colby Hines and Harris hit a pair of two-run homers. GSU scored a run in the fourth but the Panthers kept on scoring as Harris hit a three-run shot in fifth followed by a four-run sixth as GSU went through three pitchers.
Harris led the way with five RBIs while Den Beste followed with four RBIs. Dougherty was 4-for-5 with five runs scored. A.J. Helms improved to 2-3 on the mound with four strikeouts.
The series concludes on Sunday at 12 p.m. with a single game.
