BOX SCORE LUBBOCK, Texas - Prairie View A&M nearly rallied back from four-run deficit as they fell to No. 24 Texas Tech by a 4-3 margin on Thursday evening at Rip Griffin Park In Lubbock.
Texas Tech hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first for a 2-0 lead and held off several PVAMU scoring threats over the next few innings. Texas Tech moved ahead 4-0 after five innings but the Panthers answered in the sixth as
Cody Den Beste led off with a walk and reached third on
Dominiq Harris' single before scoring on
Greg Salcido's RBI single. Salcido struck again in the seventh with a two-RBI single up the middle for a 4-3 margin but Texas Tech held off the Panthers over the final two innings to seal the win.
Salcido finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs while
Robert Cossey followed with two hits.
Jonathan Mata was tagged with the loss as he lasted five innings with three strikeouts.
Both teams return to action on Friday at 6:37 p.m. as the contest will be televised on Fox Sports Southwest.
