PINE BLUFF, Ark. – Prairie View A&M's three-game winning streak came to an abrupt end to a red-hot Arkansas-Pine Bluff as the Golden Lions claimed a 105-68 decision on Monday night.
The Panthers survived an early UAPB onslaught as they battled back from 22-10 deficit nine minutes in with an 8-0 run to trail 22-20 all courtesy of senior guard Montrael Scott. The Panthers were neck-and-neck with the Golden Lions from that point until the 6:37 mark as UAPB's Ghiavonnie Robinson hit back-to-back treys to fuel an 8-0 run and a 35-25 margin with 5:59 remaining. Back-to-back baskets from John Brisco and Karim York kept PVAMU within single digits but five turnovers by the Panthers in the final 3:56 jumpstarted a 10-3 UAPB run and a 50-33 halftime deficit.
Jacoby Green scored the first five points of the second half to draw within 12 but the Panthers went on a two-minute scoring drought due to being whistled for five fouls, including two technicals. By the time the Panthers scored again with 16:23 left, UAPB had built a 27-point lead in which they would never look back as the Panthers dropped their 10th straight contest in Pine Bluff dating back to 2006.
Scott led PVAMU with 16 points followed by 14 from Brisco and 10 from Green. Tre Hagood led PVAMU with seven rebounds, five assists and two steals.
PVAMU is back in action on Saturday at 5 p.m. as they'll host Alabama A&M inside the Baby Dome.
