ABILENE, Texas – The Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers picked up their first victory of the season Friday, defeating Hardin-Simmons by a team score of 6-1 at the Abilene Christian Invitational.

Taylor LeFridge picked up her second individual win of the season, in flight one singles play, less than a week after posting a similar win at NCAA Division I Lamar. Friday's action saw LeFridge defeat Shayne Cook 6-3 and 6-0. She also picked up her first doubles win of the year, teaming with Stacy Lackey for a 6-1 win over Cook and Jasmine Briant in flight one doubles action.

The Lady Panthers picked up the doubles point with a sweep of all three matches. In flight two, Sydney Thomas and Shaddae Findley defeated Hannah and Jenna Smith 6-3. PVAMU's Maria Lackey and Tatiana Ruhl completed the doubles sweep with a 6-1 win over Michaela Ellison and Lauren Weinheimer.

Thomas picked up her first singles win of the season in flight two, defeating Hannah Smith by scores of 6-2 and 6-4. In flight three, Lackey needed a tiebreaker in the second set to prevail over Michaela Ellison. She won by scores of 6-2 and 7-6 (7-3).

Sister Maria Lackey needed a full third set to defeat Jenna Smith in No. 5 singles. The elder Lackey opened with a 6-3 win, before dropping a 3-6 decision in the second set. PVAMU picked up the win when Lackey prevailed 10-7 in the deciding set.

Ruhl claimed a 6-4, 6-2 win over Lauren Weinheimer in flight six singles. Hardin-Simmons' lone win of the match came in flight four, when Briant staved off a tough challenge from PVAMU's Findley in a 7-5, 6-4 decision.

The Lady Panthers return to Saturday when they face the host team Abilene Christian and Trinity in a pair of matches.
