JACKSON, Miss. -- The Jackson State Lady Tigers handed Prairie View A&M its first loss on the road in 40 days in defeating the Lady Panthers 2-0 Friday.
The Lady Tigers wore down the undersized roster of Prairie View A&M, as the Lady Panthers were without their two leading scorers Friday and played only 13 players against Jackson State.
Though the Lady Tigers had the depth to set the pace of the match, it was still more than hour before the home side could break through with the first goal. Brianna Oswald gave Jackson State a 1-0 lead in the 72nd minute.
Cydnee Martin would give the Lady Tigers an insurance goal little more than two minutes later.
The win moved Jackson State (7-6-2) ahead of Prairie View A&M in the Southwestern Athletic Conference standings with a 4-1-1 league record. PVAMU (7-5-1) fell to 4-2 in league play, tied with Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
The Lady Tigers outshot Prairie View A&M 18-10 in the match. Lady Panthers goalkeeper
Dominique Dillon made six saves Friday.
The Lady Panthers return to play Sunday when they visit 1-12 Southern. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
