Panthers Make It 5 Straight With Big Win Over UAPB

Biggest Margin Of Victory Over UAPB Since 2004

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Prairie View A&M remained red hot as they won their fifth straight game for the first time in seven seasons after a 79-58 rout over Arkansas-Pine Bluff at the Baby Dome on Monday night.

For the fourth straight game, the Panthers were the aggressors as Reggis Onwukamuche, John Brisco and Karim York combined to score the first 12 points as PVAMU jumped out to an early 12-6 lead four minutes in.  UAPB countered and went on a 12-6 run over the next five minutes to claim its first lead of the night at 18-16 following Deandre McIntyre's trey.

The lead was brief as senior guard Tre Hagood answered with back-to-back jumpers and jumpstarted a 13-4 highlight filled surge which featured a little of everything from dunks, three-pointers, layups and short jumpers en route to a 31-20 lead with 6:10 remaining.

The Golden Lions trimmed their deficit to 31-24 over the next two minutes but the Panthers would answer right back as the half came to an end with an 11-4 run for a 42-28 halftime lead.

Unlike last Saturday's game versus Mississippi Valley State, which featured a big second half comeback by the Delta Devils, the Panthers came out the locker room fired up as they outscored the Golden Lions 9-3 to claim a 22-point lead (53-31) at the 16:04 mark.

There would be no comeback this time even though the Panthers slowed it down offensively in the second half as their solid defensive play was too much for the Golden Lions to overcome.

The win marked the largest margin over UAPB since a 24-point, Prairie View A&M win on Jan 24, 2004 in Prairie View, Texas.

Five players scored in double figures with Hagood leading the way with 17 points, eight assists and seven rebounds.  Brisco added 14 points, York and Onwukamuche both with 11 while Montrael Scott added 10 points.

The Panthers head on the road this weekend to face Alabama A&M and Alabama State as the first leg begins in Huntsville, Ala. on Saturday at AAMU with a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
