Eight games inside the state of Texas, two classics and the return of a familiar Football Bowl Subdivision opponent highlights the 2015 Prairie View A&M Panther football schedule.
New head football coach Willie Simmons makes his Prairie View A&M debut in Downtown Houston on Saturday, Sept. 5 against longtime rival Texas Southern inside BBVA Compass Stadium for the 31st annual Labor Day Classic. The following weekend on Saturday, Sept. 12, the Panthers head west to San Marcos, Texas to face Texas State for the third time in four seasons and the first since 2013 as the contest marks the second time the Panthers will face Texas State as an FBS foe.
With the demolition of Blackshear Field and the construction of the new Panther Stadium on campus, Prairie View A&M will play its home games at nearby Waller ISD Stadium. The first-ever collegiate contest at the stadium kicks off on Saturday, Sept. 19 as Alabama A&M comes to town. One week later, the Panthers head to Dallas for the 90th anniversary of the annual State Fair Classic against Grambling State inside the historic Cotton Bowl on Sept. 26.
The month of October features very little travel as PVAMU returns to Waller County and the Waller ISD Stadium on Oct. 3 for a non-conference game versus the University of Faith. Seven days later, Homecoming 2015 takes place as the Panthers will host Mississippi Valley State in Waller followed by a trip to Baton Rouge, La. to face Southern University for its homecoming festivities on Oct. 17. After a bye weekend on Oct. 24, the Panthers are back in action on Halloween as they'll face Arkansas-Pine Bluff at Waller Stadium on Oct. 31.
Three consecutive games versus SWAC East opponents rounds out the season as Prairie View A&M will pack its bags for two consecutive weekends to open the month of November. Coach Simmons returns to Lorman, Miss. to battle his former employer in Alcorn State on Nov. 7 for its homecoming while a trip to Montgomery, Ala. awaits PVAMU on Nov. 14 against Alabama State. The regular season commences in Waller on Nov. 21 as Jackson State will face PVAMU in the state of Texas for the first time since 2007.
