PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas -- After a long layoff, the Prairie View A&M women's tennis team was able to take the court against outside competition Sunday in preparation for this weekend's second SWAC roundup.

The Lady Panthers hosted Sam Houston State in a non-conference match Sunday, with the visiting Bearkats winning 6-1.

The Bearkats swept all three doubles competitions, but the Lady Panthers got solid play from Trinity Randolph and Shaddae Findley in flight three, as they ultimately fell in a hard-fought 6-4 decision to Fabienne Gettwart and Maddie Mortimore.

Randolph, a freshman transfer from Tennessee State, made her season debut for the Lady Panthers on Sunday.

In singles competition, PVAMU's Taylor LeFridge continued her strong showing with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Olivia Battye in flight one for the Lady Panthers' only victory. In flight two, Sydney Thomoas took Gettwart to three sets before falling by scores of 6-1, 4-6, and 6-1.

In flight four, PVAMU's Findley and Sam Houston State's Bailey Van Dyke played a very long two-set match that Van Dyke won by narrow scores of 7-5, 7-5.

Prairie View A&M's men's and women's tennis teams host the second half of the SWAC roundup this weekend in Houston. Play opens Friday.
