HOUSTON – The Prairie View A&M women's tennis team compiled a 1-2 record during the Southwestern Athletic Conference's second roundup weekend of the season.
 
The Lady Panthers defeated Grambling State 7-0 during their second match Friday to highlight their weekend. Prairie View A&M also dropped matches to Alcorn State and Southern over the final weekend of conference play.
 
Prairie View A&M concluded SWAC play with a record of 4-2 in conference dual matches. The Lady Panthers are currently 4-13.
 
Against Grambling, the Lady Panthers eased their way to their first point by sweeping all three doubles matches. Taylor LeFridge and Sydney Thomas defeated Shaunte Southern and Tafadzwa Chiridza by a score of 6-3 in flight one doubles competition.
 
In flight two, Stacy Lackey and Tatiana Ruhl matched their flight one counterparts with a 6-3 win over Grambling's Joy Jones and Tabitha Nankya. Shaddae Findley and Trinity Randolph completed the PVAMU sweep of doubles with a 6-0 win over Heidi Thomas and Helen Ayim.
 
In singles play, Maria Lackey – fresh after not playing in the doubles competition – wasted no time giving the Lady Panthers their second point after defeating GSU's Ayim by identical 6-0 scores in flight six. Sister Stacy also had a relatively easy win in flight five as she defeated Heidi Thomas 6-0 in the first set before Thomas retired early in the second set.
 
On the other hand, Sydney Thomas and Findley fended off tough Grambling challenges. In flight two, Thomas fell behind after losing to Grambling's Southern 6-3 in the first set. Thomas recovered with a 6-3 win in the second set, and went on to a 12-10 points tiebreaker in the third set.
 
In flight four, Findley eased to a 6-1 win over Chiridza in the first set, but needed a tiebreaker at the end of the second set with the games tied at six apiece. Findley claimed the 7-6 win with a 7-3 tiebreaker victory.
 
Meanwhile, LeFridge maintained her team-leading individual singles record with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Jones in flight one. LeFridge is 11-4 in singles play this season.
 
In flight three, recent PVAMU roster addition Randolph powered her way to a 6-3, 6-3 win over Nankya.
