Walkoff grand slam lifts Prairie View A&M to 10-7 win over Alcorn State

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – With his only plate appearance of the day Sunday, Carson Lee gave Prairie View A&M its most exciting win of the season.

With the bases loaded and two outs and the Panthers trailing 7-6, Lee (pictured) blasted a 2-2 pitch from Alcorn State's Jonathan Morales over the left-centerfield fence to give the Panthers a 10-6 win.

The win also gave Prairie View A&M (14-31) its three-game series win since the Panthers took two out of three games at Southern the last weekend of February. Alcorn State fell to 11-36.

Prairie View A&M's Michael Dewey pitched three and one-third innings of no-hit relief en route to claiming his second win of the season and his second triumph in five days. Joseph Mack started for the Panthers and pitched five and two-thirds innings, striking out five while giving up seven earned runs.

Daniel Belmont took the loss for the visiting Braves after he loaded the bases with no outs in the ninth inning. Morales retired the first two batters he faced before he faced Lee, who blasted his first home run of the season.

Angel Avalos went 3-for-3 with three RBIs for the Panthers. He knocked a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning; Sunday's game was Avalos' fourth multi-hit game in a one-week span.

Kevin Macias knocked two base hits for the Panthers. Anthony Fernandez made his first appearance in almost a month and made the most of his only at-bat, a pinch hit triple in the bottom of the sixth inning; he would later score on Connor Wrye's RBI groundout.

After taking a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, the Panthers saw the Braves come back and tie the game by the middle of the fourth inning. The Panthers responded with a pair of runs of their own – Walter Wells' RBI fielder's choice scored David Drake before Avalos recorded his third RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly that scored Edward Robledo.

The Braves reclaimed a 7-6 lead with a four-run sixth inning that was highlighted with a three-run home run from Scotty Peavey.

Alcorn State's Cedric Walker started and pitched seven innings, striking out six batters while giving up four earned runs. Walker played second base in both of Saturday's games against Prairie View A&M.

The Panthers return to action Tuesday when visit the Disch-Falk Field in Austin for a game against the Texas Longhorns. Prairie View A&M's last road game of the regular season is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start, and can be viewed on the Longhorn Network.
