HOUSTON – Freshman Deonca Bookman had another solid weekend as she won the 400-meter hurdles at the Victor Lopez Bayou Classic held at Rice University on Saturday.
The Allen, Texas native topped the field in a time of 58.92 as she won the event for the second straight weekend. As of now, Bookman's time of 58.54 at last weekend's Texas State Invitational ranks fourth nationally in the western half of NCAA Division I teams.
Bookman joined with Monique Green, Shaleetha Jackson and Ugonna Okpala to place seventh in the 4x100-meter relay and helped lead the Lady Panthers to a third-place finish (3:49.48) in the mile relay along with Okpala, Angela Uhegwu and Brandalyn Williams.
Jada Curbeam led the way in the field as she picked up points with a sixth-place (36-10.5) mark in the triple jump.
