PHOTO: Neharika Rama (left) and Trinity Randolph (right) PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers tennis team participated in their third match in three days Sunday as they opened their home schedule with the Ragin' Cajuns of Louisiana–Lafayette.
Louisiana won the match by a score of 7-0.
(Box Score) The Ragin' Cajuns swept the doubles matches to take the first point of the match. Louisiana won all three doubles matches by scores of 6-2.
Sydney Thomas and
Neharika Rama attracted the most fanfare in singles play from the PVAMU faithful, playing on courts one and two, respectively. Thomas fought hard in her flight one matchup against Louisiana's Kelly Drew; Drew triumphed by scores of 6-3, 6-4.
In the other main exhibition court, Rama gave Elena Sava a competitive flight two singles match before Sava prevailed by a scores of 6-2, 6-4.
Flight four proved to be the longest match of the morning, with players from both teams gathering to see the completion of the match between PVAMU's
Stacy Lackey and Louisiana's Melissa Burckhartt to finish the team competition. Burckhartt would eventually come away with a 6-4, 6-3 win.
The Lady Panthers return to action Thursday when they host LSU–Alexandria at the PVAMU Tennis Courts on the western side of the Prairie View A&M campus. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
