Lady Panthers claim first win of 2016

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers claimed their first win of 2016 Thursday when the Generals of LSU Alexandria by a score of 5-2.

Shaddae Findley's 6-4, 6-3 flight five win over Claudia van den Brink gave the Lady Panthers their fourth team point to clinch the win for Prairie View A&M (1-4).
 
LSU Alexandria, an NAIA member institution that competes in the Red River Athletic Conference, fell to 0-1.
 
Findley (pictured), her doubles partner Stacy Lackey, Timara Maxwell, and Neharika Rama all experienced fine days on the court, as each of the four PVAMU players were victorious in doubles and singles play. Findley and Lackey also clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win over Gisela Amor and Sara Andrade in flight one.
 
Rama and Maxwell gave the Lady Panthers the advantage in doubles play after breezing to a 6-0 win over van den Brink and Paula Gordilla in flight two.
 
Maxwell was also the first player to complete her singles victory as she turned away Nicolette Uscocovich by scores of 6-2, 6-2 in flight six. In flight two Rama defeated Amor by scores of 6-2, 6-4, giving the Lady Panthers the upper hand.
 
In flight three singles play, Lackey overcame a 4-6 defeat in the first set to claim the win over Gordilla, winning sets two and three by scores of 6-2 and 6-1.
 
LSU Alexandria took points in flight one and flight four of singles play. Andrade prevailed 6-3, 6-3 over Sydney Thomas in a tough flight one match, while Betsabe Vasquez Hidalgo won over PVAMU's Trinity Randolph by default. Randolph had won the first set by a score of 6-4 prior to that.
 
With the Lady Panthers already claiming the doubles point, both teams gathered to cheer on their teammates in flight three of doubles play, featuring Thomas and Tatiana Ruhl facing LSUA's Vasquez Hidalgo and Uscocovich. The Generals duo edged Thomas and Ruhl 7-6, winning the tiebreaker 6-4.
 
In extra singles competitions, PVAMU's Maria Lackey breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Liz Arens, while Ruhl fought hard in a three-game set to Ariadna Cabezas, who ultimately prevailed by scores of 6-3, 4-6, 7-5.
 
The Lady Panthers continue play this weekend in Huntsville, starting with a match against Louisiana Tech at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at Sam Houston State. PVAMU faces the host Bearkats on Sunday at 1 p.m.
