HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The Prairie View A&M women's tennis team concluded its weekend in Huntsville on Sunday with a match against host Sam Houston State.
 
The Bearkats (2-1) won the match by a score of 7-0. The Lady Panthers fell to 1-6 for the season.
 
Freshman Timara Maxwell's long match against Sam Houston State's Caitlyn Mitchell in flight six singles play highlighted the day for the Lady Panthers. Maxwell dropped the first set 6-3 before recovering with a 7-6 win in set two. She edged Mitchell in the tiebreaker by a score of 8-6.
 
In the tiebreaker set three, Maxwell and Mitchell played 18 long points before the Bearkat player prevailed by a narrow 10-8 margin.
 
Flight two of the singles competition also featured a tiebreaker game between PVAMU's Neharika Rama and Sam Houston State's Carrie Casey. Casey outlasted Rama 6-3 in the opening set, but needed a tiebreaker game to win the second set 7-6 and claim the match. The score of tiebreaker was 7-3 in favor of the home team.
 
Rama and Maxwell competed together for the Lady Panthers in flight two doubles play. SHSU's Ema Barkovic and Maddie Mortimore won that match 6-1.
 
PVAMU's Shaddae Findley and Stacy Lackey took two games from their doubles opponent in flight one; The Bearkats' Casey and Mila Milanovic won that match by a 6-2 score.
 
The Lady Panthers return to the court next Sunday, Feb. 7, when visit Lake Charles for a dual match with McNeese State. Match time is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start.
