Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship teams along with outstanding individual accomplishments highlights the Prairie View A&M University Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2016.

This class of Prairie View A&M legends includes the 2009 SWAC Champion football team, the 2006 SWAC Champion volleyball team, Samuel Barner (football), Catherine Burnley (soccer), and Marvalyn Judge (basketball/softball/cheerleader)

The Class of 2016 will be presented on the field during the Saturday, Nov. 12 football game vs. Southern at Panther Stadium.

The 2009 SWAC Championship was the first for the Panther football program since 1964. Head Coach Henry Frazier guided team to a 9-1 record and a victory over Alabama A&M in the SWAC Championship Game in Birmingham, Ala.
K.J. Black, current PVAMU quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator, was the starting QB on the title-winning team, earning SWAC Offensive Player of the Year honors.

The 2006 volleyball team posted the best record in program history at 23-11, and had the privilege of winning the SWAC Championship on The Hill in the William J. Nicks Babydome. Coached by former player and eventual PVAMU and SWAC Hall of Famer
Alicia Pete (current PVAMU Associate Athletic Director / Internal Operations, SWA), the Lady Panthers made the program's second ever NCAA Tournament appearance. Current head coach Tacho Tyler, a 2015 PVAMU Hall of Fame Inductee, earned 2006 SWAC Tournament MVP honors.

Barner was a four-year player (1989, 1991-93) and was a three-year captain on the Panther football team (1991-93), and was voted the team's most valuable player in 1992. He was a two-time second-team All-SWAC punter (1991, 1993).

Burnley was one of the first freshmen recruited for the inaugural soccer team and was a four-year starter (2002-06)Â for the Lady Panthers. She ranked fourth in the nation in goals per game as a junior, and was second in the nation in goals per game as a senior. She is the PVAMU career leader in goals scored (36) and points (77).

Judge was a three-year starter and captain and four-year letterman on the Lady Panthers' basketball team (85-90), and a three-time first-team All-SWAC selection (87-90). Judge led the team in three-pointers, assists and steals as a sophomore and junior, and led the team in assists in as a senior. She also was a cheerleader (87-91) and played on the first softball team (1990-91) in school history.
