Women's Basketball Host Texas State

The Prairie View A&M University women's basketball team will return to the hardwood for their final non-conference home game as they host Texas State of the Sun Belt Conference Friday night in the William J. Nicks Babydome at 7 p.m.

Fans can listen to the game on the OpenMic Broadcast Network through pvpanthers.com. It can also be viewed online, with the video and live stats links available on pvpanthers.com.

"Our biggest objective Friday is to make sure that we do our job defensively and not let them (Texas State) have easy possessions," Prairie View A&M head women's basketball coach Ravon Justice said.  "They are a really, really, good team, and they have been aggressive on the drive, so we will have to take that away from them tomorrow."

PVAMU (4-5) will look to bounce back from a 94-62 loss to 16-ranked DePaul on December 5th, the last time the Lady Panthers played. Texas State (3-5) is coming off a 65-51 home loss to St. Edwards last Saturday.

"The ladies are playing really hard and are sticking to the game plan," said Justice of her team. "We put ourselves in some really tough situations by not shooting well at the free throw line.  That's one thing we took pride in this week, looking at those tough games that we lost at the free throw line."

Texas State and Prairie View A&M have met 12 times on the hardwood, with the Bobcats holding an 8-4 series lead.  The series started in 1974 with PVAMU winning 46-40.  The last meeting between the universities came on Feb. 20, 2008 in the opening round of the WNIT. The Bobcats picked up a narrow 84-83 win on a 3-pointer with 1.4 seconds to play.

Senior Alexus Parker is leading the team in scoring, averaging 16.1 points per contest.  Tori Carter, who graduated last Saturday, is second in scoring at 14.0 ppg.

"Tori is excited about graduating and moving on with the next chapter in her life," an excited Justice said about Carter. "Right now, she is truly excited about continuing to run this team and focusing on finishing out her senior year strong."
