PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Prairie View A&M women's tennis team played one final tuneup match Wednesday before returning to Southwestern Athletic Conference play this weekend.
 
The Lady Panthers hosted the Bradley Braves, a member institution of the Missouri Valley Conference located in Peoria, Ill. Prairie View A&M was the second of three teams Bradley will face on a Spring Break trip to Texas.
 
The Braves triumphed 4-1 but not before facing a tough competition from the Lady Panthers on their home court.
 
Timara Maxwell earned the Lady Panthers' official point in flight six of singles play. Maxwell edged Julie Martin 7-5 in the first set before breezing to a 6-0 win in set two.
 
Bradley players had to work extra hard to take points in flights one and four of singles play. Ariel Dechter outlasted PVAMU's Neharika Rama in a first set tie breaker before ultimately winning the match by scores of 7-6, 6-1.
 
In flight four, Trinity Randolph won eight games from Bradley opponent Ashley Thai before the Braves took the point with Thai's 6-4, 6-4 win.
 
Time constraints for Bradley's travel schedule deprived attendees of a finish in two very close matches. PVAMU's Shaddae Findley had split a pair of 6-4 decisions with opponent Malini Wijesinghe; the players were early in set three when the match was abandoned with Bradley having accumulated the necessary four points.
 
Rama and Stacy Lackey were tied at 6-6 with Bradley opponents Thai and Alexa Brandt in flight one doubles. The Braves took the doubles point when Dechter and Aimee Manfredo finally claimed a close 7-5 decision over Maxwell and Randolph.
 
In unofficial play, Maria Lackey and Sydney Thomas won their doubles match 6-3 over their Bradley opponents.
 
The Lady Panthers travel to Montgomery, Ala., for the season's second SWAC Roundup, with play scheduled to begin Friday.
