GRAMBLING, La. – The Grambling State Tigers concluded their Southwestern Athletic Conference series against Prairie View A&M with a doubleheader sweep Saturday.

Robert Lopez' third-inning grand slam – his second home run of game two – highlighted the a seven-run inning as the Tigers went on to claim a 13-6 win in the doubleheader finale. Earlier, Grambling State (9-13, 7-2 SWAC) had won 8-4 to clinch the series win after winning the opener Friday.

Prairie View A&M (6-16) fell to 3-8 in SWAC play with the loss.

The seven-run third inning in game two was part of a stretch in which Grambling State scored nine unanswered runs. Lopez hit his first home run of the game in the bottom of the second inning to cut PVAMU's lead to 4-2; he had six RBIs in the finale.

The grand slam livened up the Grambling crowd but also caused tempers to heat. Following a small delay as words were exchanged between the teams, one player was ejected from each team. Grambling would lose a second player for taunting later in the inning.

Darrien Williams took the loss for the Panthers in game two, giving up nine earned runs. Creighton Hoover, GSU's second relief pitcher, earned the win after pitching four and one-thirds innings and allowing two runs while striking out three.

Kevin Macias and
Kevin Lahaie each had two RBIs in game two. Macias knocked a two-RBI double in the second inning to stretch PVAMU's lead to 3-0. Lahaie added an RBI three batters later with his first base hit of the season.

Macias,
Angel Avalos, and
Shannon Washington each had two hits in the second game. Washington also added an RBI with a triple in the sixth inning.

One day after knocking his first base hit in a PVAMU uniform,
Gabriel Rodriguez added another single for the Panthers in game two.

Alex Richardson (pictured) pitched three innings of relief for the Panthers, allowing only one earned run. For the day, he pitched five innings, yielding only the single earned run in game two.

In game one, the Tigers scored a three runs in the seventh inning to break a 4-4 tie and vault themselves to victory. Diamyn Hall was hit by a 2-2 pitch from Robledo with the bases loaded to draw would be the game-winning RBI. The next batter, Andres Castillo, knocked a two-RBI single to give Grambling some breathing room.

Avalos hit a two-run home run for the Panthers in the top of the first inning. Washington hit an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning to score Macias, which was followed Williams adding a sacrifice fly to score Avalos two batters later to tie the game at 4-4.

Robledo took the loss in relief, giving up the three earned runs in the seventh inning. He had pitched three scoreless innings before that.

Edgar Sanchez had started the game and was charged with two unearned runs in the second inning. He pitched a scoreless first inning but came out of the game with an injury after colliding with
Kaylor Lewis during a groundball bunt in the second.

The Panthers return to action Tuesday when they visit Houston Baptist. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
