BOX SCORE 2 CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Prairie View A&M fell in a doubleheader to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi by margins of 5-0, 6-3 at Chapman Field on Saturday.
An early walk and illegal pitch in the first led to an early 1-0 deficit. Both teams remained scoreless from that point until the fourth as the Islanders plated four runs with three of them occurring with two outs. The Lady Panthers had opportunities with baserunners in scoring position but couldn't come through with the timely hit.
In game two, an early three-run lead failed to hold as Texas A&M-CC claimed a 6-3 win.
The Lady Panthers shook off their offensive rust to open the contest as Laurisa Hernandez drove in the game's first run with an RBI single which scored Daneisha Hinton. Regan McIlvenna cleaned the bases with an RBI triple which scored Hernandez and Taylor Harvill for the 3-0 lead.
The Islanders answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first as a muffed throw led to both runs. They added two more runs to take the lead after two innings of play via a sacrifice fly and another two-out RBI. PVAMU's best chance at scoring took place in the fifth as Alexandra Losoya drew a leadoff walk and an error allowed Hinton to reach first with no outs. A sac bunt moved Losoya and Hinton into scoring position with only one out but two strikeouts ended the threat as the Islanders tacked on two more runs in the sixth.
McIlvenna led the way with two RBIs and a hit while Jalla Johnson drew a pair of walks.
The series concludes with a single game Sunday at 1 p.m.
