NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers saw their season come to an end Friday at the postseason Southwestern Athletic Conference women's tennis tournament.
 
Southern, the No. 3-seeded team in the SWAC Tournament, claimed a 4-1 victory over the Lady Panthers. The Jaguars fell 4-2 to eventual SWAC champion Alcorn State in the semifinal round Saturday by a 4-2 score.
 
Stacy Lackey claimed the Lady Panthers' win in flight five of the singles competition, defeating Mia Kent in straight sets by scores of 6-3 and 6-2.
 
The Jaguars won the doubles point by winning flights two and three. They then got the three points they needed in singles play in flights two, three, and six.
 
With time and weather as factors in the match, several matches in singles and doubles play were left unfinished. Neharika Rama's flight one match with Southern's Laura Syori was particularly competitive, as Rama was leading 6-5 in the second set on the brink of tying the match when it was suspended.
 
PVAMU's Shaddae Findley (pictured, back, with Tatiana Ruhl) was tied 4-4 in the second set of flight four, trailing Rufaro Chirewa by a set when it, too, was suspended.
 
The Lady Panthers entered the postseason as the No. 5 team in the SWAC tournament. Six of the SWAC's eight women's tennis team qualified for postseason event.
 
Prairie View A&M finished the season with a record of 5-21, under first-year head coach Duane Williams, who was hired in September. He had previous been an assistant for the men's and women's teams at PVAMU, and helped lead the men's team to championships in 2010 and 2013.
