SAN MARCOS, Texas – Deonca Bookman won the 400-meter hurdles at the Bobcat Invitational for the second straight year while Nekeisha Bailey won the high jump as the PVAMU women's track team had a solid weekend on the track.
The Lady Panthers started things out with a strong showing in the heptathlon as Camirey Jackson and Jada Curbeam finished fourth and sixth, respectively. Curbeam tied for first in the high jump (5-2), finished second in the long jump (17-5.25), fourth in the javelin (93-7) and fifth in the 800 (2:39.03). Jackson won the shot put (35-3), placed second in the 200 (25.92), sixth in the long jump (16-5) and second in the javelin (98-11). Both Jackson and Curbeam's point total ranks 1-2 in the SWAC.
Freshman Nekiesha Bailey won the high jump with a career outdoor best mark of 5-7 which also stands as the best mark in the SWAC at this point of the season. Bookman won the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:00.8 as it marked her first hurdles race of the outdoor season. Bookman's time ranks as the second-best in the SWAC this season.
Bookman also placed eighth in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal best time (14.05) while the mile relay team of Husniyyah Rogers, Bookman, Takara Coleman and Gertrude Martin placed third in a time of 3:46.65.
