AUSTIN, Texas – The Prairie View A&M Panthers kept within striking distance of one of the most storied college baseball programs in the sport's history Tuesday before succumbing 7-0 to the Texas Longhorns.

Edgar Sanchez outlasted Texas starter Connor Mayes by tossing five shutout innings before the Longhorns scored two runs in the sixth thanks to a pair of PVAMU errors.

The Longhorns improved to 21-24 with the victory. Prairie View A&M fell to 10-29.

Sanchez absorbed the loss for the Panthers, giving up three earned runs and striking out four over seven and one-thirds innings. The remaining four Texas runs were unearned as the Longhorns took advantage of six PVAMU errors in the game.

Mayes tossed four innings, giving up one hit. Nick Kennedy picked up the win for the Longhorns after retiring the Panthers in order in the fifth and sixth innings; Chase Shugart earned a two-inning save, entering the game with a 2-0 lead before the Longhorns scored five in the eighth inning.

The Longhorns placed their leadoff hitter on base in four of the first five innings, but each time Sanchez was able to get out of the inning. Texas scored the game winning run when Kody Clemens knocked a groundball that went under first baseman
Angel Avalos' glove and into the outfield, which allowed Michael Cantu to score from second base.

Texas got its second run of the inning when Kacy Clemens reached base on a two-out throwing error that allowed Travis Jones to score from third base.

Avalos knocked two hits in the game for PVAMU.

Joseph Mack also knocked hits for the Panthers.

Kacy Clemens went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs for the Longhorns. Kacy and Kody Clemens are the youngest sons of former Major League pitcher and seven-time Cy Young Award winner Roger Clemens.

Tuesday's game marked the first time this season the Panthers appeared on television, as the game was aired on the Longhorn Network, part of the ESPN family of networks.

The Panthers return to action Wednesday when they head to the University of Houston for a matchup against the Cougars. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
