PINE BLUFF, Ark. – The Prairie View A&M University men's basketball team lost in double overtime at Arkansas-Pine Bluff 71-68 Monday night at H.O. Clemmons Arena.
Zachary Hamilton scored a team-high 25 points,
Tevin Bellinger scored 19 and
Troy Thompson 18 for the Panthers (6-15 overall, 3-4 SWAC).
Trailing by eight midway through the second half, the Panthers went on a 14-2 run. Bellinger converted a layup high off the glass to put the Panthers back in front, 53-51, with 53 seconds to play. He later added two free throws to give the Panthers a 55-51 lead with 21 seconds to play before the Golden Lions (5-15, 4-3) rallied to force overtime.
In the first overtime, a three-pointer and free throw by Thompson gave the Panthers a 63-59 lead with 32 seconds to play. However, UAPB rallied again to force a second overtime.
In double OT, a three-point play by Bellinger tied the score at 66-all with just over three minutes remaining. A jumper by Hamilton gave the Panthers a 68-66 lead with 2:17 remaining but PVAMU would not score again.
