Women's Basketball Continues SWAC Play At Alcorn

LORMAN, Miss. – With their first Southwestern Athletic Conference game in the books, the Prairie View A&M women's basketball team will look to draw even in conference play as they travel to Alcorn State Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. tip.

In the series history, Alcorn State leads 52-22.  The teams split last year's games when PV lost to Alcorn on March 3, 2016 70-65, but won earlier in the season at the W.J. Nicks "Babydome" on Jan. 2 58-54.  Senior Tori Carter posted a game-high of 18 points at the Lady Braves house, while Alexus Parker scored 13 points in both games.

PV (5-8, 0-1 SWAC) opened its SWAC schedule with an 86-72 loss to Southern Monday night.  Parker scored a team-high of 21 points, while junior La'Sha Haynes added 11 points and 11 rebounds, her second double-double of the season.  Parker is averaging 15.3 ppg and ranked fourth in the conference in scoring.

"It's tough playing on the road, but we just have to regroup and make sure we take care of the ball and play our game," said PVAMU head coach Ravon Justice.  "We have got to take CARE
of the ball and make plays when needed.  SWAC season is considered a new season so all records are thrown out.  Although Alcorn's record says one thing, we are not going to come in here tomorrow and under estimate them.  They only lost by four points against TSU and so I know they are going to play us tough and try to get win, but we will have to show up and step up."

The Lady Braves are currently 0-12 (0-1 SWAC) on the season, including a 57-53 loss to Texas Southern in their first SWAC contest.  Alcorn's offense is paced by Tia Sanders who is averaging 11.1 points per game and Miracle Rushing who is averaging 7.1 rebounds and 4.8 ppg.
