Soccer Blanks Mississippi Valley for Third Shutout Win of the Year

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas –  Three different players scored, coupled with a stellar defensive effort by the Prairie View A&M University soccer team, propelled the Lady Panthers to a 3-0 win over Mississippi Valley for the teams' third shutout of the season.

Sophomore Blair Lane opened the game up for the Lady Panthers with a goal, scoring just a little under three minutes after the start of the game (2:39).  This made her fourth goal of the season.

Leading 1-0 late in the first stanza, a solidly placed kick in the top of the net thanks on the first career goal of freshman Kendall Jackson-Striggers off the assist from Alex Fields in the 38th minute extended the PVAMU margin to 2-0 heading into the halftime break.

The Lady Panthers came out scorching in the early stages of the second half and extended the lead. Midway through the second period, Alexis Mack found the top of the left net to widen the Lady Panther gap to 3-0.  The goal brings her total to three this season.

Defensively, the Lady Panthers limited the Devilettes to just six shots, and only two on goal.

Freshman Alexis Espino tabbed her first shutout of the year, making two saves in her 90 minutes of action.

The Lady Panthers will return to action at home Sunday when they face the Lady Braves of Alcorn State for a 1 p.m. Southwestern Athletic Conference showdown at the PVAMU Soccer Complex.
