Oregon Pulls Away From Panthers

EUGENE, Oregon - The Prairie View A&M University men's basketball team lost at Oregon 100-67 Monday at Matthew Knight Arena.
 
Zachary Hamilton had a game-high 23 points and added four rebounds to lead three players in double figures. Austin Starr scored 11 points off the bench, and J. D. Wallace scored 10 points and added six rebounds.
 
The game was much closer than the score indicated over the first 24+ minutes. The teams traded runs in the first half. Gary Blackston's four quick points got the Panthers off to a fast start early. After a 10-0 run by Oregon, Prairie View A&M battled back to cut the deficit to two at 13-11 on a basket by Shaquille Preston with 12:32 to play until halftime.
 
After the Ducks expanded the lead to as many as 14 in the first half, Prairie View A&M cut the deficit down again. A three-pointer by Hamilton brought Prairie View A&M to within six at 34-28 with just under two minutes to remaining in the first half. PVAMU trailed 37-28 at halftime.
 
The Ducks pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Panthers 63-39.
 
Prairie View A&M returns to action Wednesday at 9 p.m. at UNLV.
