Dobbins Leads Women's Basketball To Win Over Arlington Baptist

 
PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Prairie View A&M University women's basketball team defeated the Arlington Baptist Lady Patriots 116-73 at the William J. Nicks Baby Dome on the campus of Prairie View A&M University on Tuesday night.  
 
The last time that the Lady Panthers scored a hundred points was in 2013 at the SWAC Championship with a 100-84 quadruple overtime win over Mississippi Valley.  PVAMU posted a 102-51 win at the Baby Dome on Jan. 23, 2012 over Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
 
All Lady Panthers who were in uniform scored, as Shala Dobbins led all scorers with 36 points on 52 percent shooting, Jordyn Penniman totaled 21 points, and added five rebounds.  Redshirt senior Alexis Robinson tallied 19 points in 37 minutes of action.  
 
The Lady Panthers led by as many as 43 while holding Arlington Baptist to 36.5 percent shooting from the field in the contest.
 
PVAMU broke fast out the gates, taking a 14-3 lead in less than three minutes into the contest. The Lady Patriots would battle back, cutting the PVAMU advantage to 20-14 after a converted three-point attempt by an Arlington Baptist player.  The Lady Panthers would finish the opening quarter strong, outscoring the Lady Patriots 16-9 in the final three minutes of the first quarter. At the conclusion of the opening quarter, PVAMU led 35-23.
 
In the second quarter, the Lady Patriots showed a little momentum as they battled their way back into the ball game, going on a 9-3 run to slash the Lady Panther's lead to half a dozen with 7:35 remaining in the first half. The Lady Panthers would respond with a run of their own, as Robinson and Dobbins were pivotal in PVAMU's lead, by as many as 18 points midway through the second quarter.  As both teams headed to the locker room for halftime, the Purple and Gold were in possession of a 62-45 advantage.
 
PVAMU continued their hot shooting from the field during the second half, as Arlington Baptist was not able to cut the Panther lead to less than 22 points as the Lady Panthers cruised to their second victory of the 2017-2018 season.
 
The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team will return to action Monday, Nov. 20th as they travel to Daytona Beach, Fla. to take on Bethune Cookman.
