This is only the second meeting between these two teams on the hardwood, and second straight year the teams will play. Last season, the Lady Panthers rallied to beat the Wildcats 66-64 in the William J. Nicks Baby Dome.
"We didn't do well when we played them the last time," said head PVAMU women's basketball coach Ravon Justice. "We had to come from behind to get the win and that's something that you don't want to happen. We were able to make some adjustments and win the game."
Both teams will enter Monday's game with a 2-0 record. PVAMU hosted Arlington Baptist in their last outing, posting a 116-73 win over the Patriots. Newcomer Shala Dobbins scored a game high 36 points while adding eight rebounds, three assists and three steals in the win. Dobbins is averaging 27.5 ppg.Â
Alexis Robinson is currently leading PVAMU in rebounds averaging 8.0 per game while averaging 14.5 points per contest. Jordyn Penniman has scored 21 points in both contests is second on the team in scoring.
Bethune-Cookman is coming off a 77-59 road win over Florida International last Monday. The Wildcats are led in scoring by junior Angel Golden who is averaging 18.5 ppg, while her teammate Ashunti Hunt leads the team in rebounding averaging 10.5 rebounds per contest.
"We know going into the game with Bethune it's going to be a fight," said Justice. "Bethune-Cookman is a good team and I am definitely looking forward to this 40-minute game."
