JACKSON, Miss. – The Prairie View A&M University men's basketball team lost at Jackson State 78-69 Saturday at the Williams Athletics and Assembly Center.
Tevin Bellinger posted his 11
th straight double-digit scoring game with 21 points along with four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Zachary Hamilton scored 18 points and added three rebounds for the Panthers. JaDonta Blakely scored 11 points with three rebounds, six assists and three steals and
Troy Thompson added 10 points for PVAMU (8-17, 5-6)
The Panthers got off to a fast start early, as a three-pointer by Hamilton gave Prairie View A&M an early 15-5 lead less than five minutes into the game. A layup by
Tevin Bellinger gave the Panthers their largest lead of the game, 35-23 with just over four minutes to play in the first half.
After leading by six at halftime, Prairie View A&M led by nine points twice in the second half, the final time at 49-40 with just over 14 minutes to play on a Bellinger three-pointer. After Jackson State (10-15, 6-6) battled back to take the lead, PVAMU took its final lead at 65-64 with 2:56 remaining on three free throws by Bellinger but would not lead again.
The Panthers return to action Monday at Grambling State at 7:30 p.m. with a live radio broadcast on KPVU 91.3 FM.
