NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Prairie View A&M University baseball team fell to Alcorn State 11-3 on day 2 of the Major League Baseball Urban Invitational.
Trailing 3-0 in the fifth, the Panthers (1-1) roared back to tie the score.
Andrew Garcia walked to lead off the inning.
Xavier Jefferson then homered to right center field on a 1-1 pitch to bring PVAMU within 3-2.
Tyler Gordon then walked. Following an out, Gordon stole second, and later advanced third on a passed ball.
Anthony Fernandez then doubled down the left field line to score Gordon and tie the score at 3-3.
However, Alcorn St. (1-1) pulled away by scoring in each of the final four innings.
Prairie View A&M will play a double header Sunday, first facing the University of New Orleans at 1 p.m. before facing Illinois-Chicago at 4 p.m. Both games will be played at UNO's Maestri Field, with a live radio broadcast on pvpanthers.com.
