The Prairie View A&M University baseball team split Sunday's doubleheader against Texas Southern at Tankersley Field.
The Panthers won game one 3-2, before Texas Southern took the nightcap, 8-0.
PVAMU returns to action Tuesday at Lamar at 6 p.m.
Game 1 - Panthers 3, Texas Southern 2: Prairie View A&M scored single runs in the first three innings and made it stand up behind the pitching of
Darrien Williams and
Charles Philpott.
Corbin Jamison led off the first with a triple to left center, and scored on a single to left field by
Avery Williams for a 1-0 lead.
In the second,
Andrew Garcia walked, and moved from first to third on a sacrifice bunt by
Kaylor Lewis. Garcia then scored on a wild pitch as the Panthers took a 2-0 lead.
Leading 2-1 in the home half of the third inning,
Cody Den Beste led off with a single to left center, advanced from first to third on a wild pitch, and then scored on a wild pitch for a 3-1 lead.
Darrien Williams (1-1) threw six innings, allowing only three hits and two unearned runs, walked six and struckout eight.
Charles Philpott pitched three hitless, scoreless innings, walking one and striking out two to earn the save.
Jamison,
Avery Williams, and Den Beste each went 2-for-4 at the plate in the win.
Game 2 – Texas Southern 8, Panthers 0: Nathan Carter and
Steven Williams got the only hits in game two for PVAMU.
