Prairie View, Texas. – The Prairie View A&M University softball team dropped a pair of Southwestern Athletic Conference games to Arkansas Pine Bluff on Saturday by the scores of 5-4 and 11-4.
Game 1 UAPB 5, PVAMU 4
The Lady Panthers took an early lead in game one as
Shelby Williams hit a single down the first base line and then stole second.
Kiara Ross was hit by a pitch and both her and S. Williams came around to score on a 2 RBI double by
Laurisa Hernandez. On a sac fly out to right field Hernandez came across the plate to score taking a 3-0 lead over the Golden Lions.
UAPB scored four runs in the top of the fourth to take a 4-3 lead over PVAMU. The Lady Panthers came right back and scored a run in the bottom half of the inning when
Destinee Williams singled to right center scoring S. Williams who was walked earlier in the lineup to knot the game at 4-4.
UAPB scored in the top of the seventh to take the game 5-4.
Game 2, UAPB 11, PVAMU 4
The Lady Golden Lions jumped on the board first taking a 2-0 lead over PVAMU in the first inning. UAPB scored seven more runs in the second before the Lady Panthers'
Tianna Thomas doubled down the leftfield line scoring D. Williams, who singled to left field to open the inning.
UAPB scored again in the fourth, before PVAMU's
Jennifer Garcia led off the fifth with an infield single to the shortstop.
Amanda Ford also had an infield single to second.
Brooke Dibler loaded the bases for the Lady Panthers with a single to left field.
S. Williams had an infield single to second, scoring J. Garcia and Dibler was out on the play, because of a runner's interference. With a runner at each corner and after Ross drew her second-straight walk, Hernandez hit a 2 RBI double to left center to score Ford and S. Williams. UAPB closed out with one more run in sixth for the final margin.
Freshman
Kellady Johnson took over on the mound for the Lady Panthers in the top of the third inning only allowing five hits and two runs in only her fifth appearance as a pitcher.
