HOUSTON – The Prairie View A&M University baseball team lost at Texas Southern 8-6 Sunday at McGregor Park.
The Panthers (13-26, 6-9) took a 1-0 lead in the fourth.
Cody Den Beste doubled down the left field line, and
Carson Lee singled, moving Den Beste to third.
Nathan Carter's sac fly scored Den Beste for a 1-0 lead.
Prairie View A&M added four runs in the fifth. Kevin Macais was hit by a pitch, ahead of a
Kaylor Lewis single through the left side. Following a sacrifice bunt by
Brashad Jones, Macais was safe at home, scoring on a fielder's choice grounder by
Avery Williams. Lewis then scored on a passed ball for a 3-0 lead. Following a walk to Baker and a flyout, Lee singled through the right side, scoring Williams. Baker then scored on a wild pitch for a 5-0 lead.
Texas Southern (13-23, 11-6) scored three times in the seventh to cut the deficit to 5-3.
The Panthers added their final run in the eighth. With one out, Lee, who went 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI, singled to right field.
Nathan Carter then walked before
Corbin Jamison's single off the top of the wall just missed being a three-run homer, scoring Lee for a 6-3 lead.
TSU scored five times in the ninth to take the win.
Edgar Sanchez went seven innings for the Panthers, allowing six hits and three runs with one walk in seven strikeouts, throwing 76 of his 107 pitches for strikes.
