Darrien Williams threw a complete-game four hitter, and
Corbin Jamison and
Cody Den Beste had key run-scoring hits at the Prairie View A&M University baseball team defeated Southern 3-1 Saturday at Tankersley Field.
Williams (4-2) walked two and struck out six in limiting the Jaguars to a sixth-inning run. He induced a pair of double plays and struck out pinch hitter Chris Eusay for the final out.
Prairie View A&M (15-27, 8-9) scored in the fourth.
Carson Lee singled to lead off the inning and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Steven Williams.
Tyrone Thomas singled to left center, moving Williams to third.
Nathan Carter then singled to center on a 1-2 pitch to score Lee for a 1-0 lead.
In the seventh,
Kevin Macias led off with a singled to right, and later advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches. With one out, Jamison bounced a single up the middle through a drawn-in infield to put the Panthers back in front. Jamison then stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error. With two outs, Den Beste doubled to center field, scoring Jamison.
Williams threw 78 of his 120 pitches for strikes, and did not allow a hit over the final three innings.
