Edgar Sanchez threw a complete-game seven hitter, and
Corbin Jamison homered as the Prairie View A&M University baseball team defeated Southern 3-1 Sunday at Tankersley Field to sweep the Southwestern Athletic Conference series.
Â
The three-game conference sweep by Prairie View A&M (16-27 overall, 9-9 SWAC) was the first since March 29-30, 2014 at Southern. It was the first home three-game SWAC sweep by Panthers' baseball since March 24-25, 2012 over Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
Â
Sanchez (3-4) threw his second complete game of the season, yielding the one run, walking none and striking out a season-high tying seven batters. He threw 76 of his 109 pitches for strikes in winning his third straight decision and followed
Darrien Williams' effort with the second straight complete game by a PVAMU pitcher.
Â
Jamison scored two of the Panthers' three runs,
Cody Den Beste went 3-for-3 with a run scored, and
Steven Williams went 3-for-4 with an RBI in the second consecutive 3-1 win over Southern (12-23, 7-13) in as many days.
Â
Jamison's third homer of the season to left field on an 0-1 pitch in the bottom of the first inning gave Prairie View A&M a lead it would not relinquish.
Â
In the third, Jamison led off with a single up the middle, and later advanced to third on a throwing error.
Avery Williams' groundout scored Jamison for a 2-0 lead. Den Beste then reached on an infield single, stole second, and advanced to third on a wild pitch.
Steven Williams singled to left center to score Den Beste.
