The Prairie View A&M University baseball team lost to Incarnate Word 17-4 Tuesday at Tankersley Field.
Cody Den Beste had three of the Panthers' six hits, including his third homer of the season, and drove in two runs.
PVAMU (16-28) got on the board in the first inning. With one out,
Xavier Jefferson and Den Beste hit back-to-back singles, and
Carson Lee walked to load the bases. With two outs,
Tyler Gordon walked on a 3-1 pitch, scoring Jefferson for a 1-0 lead.
The Panthers added runs in the fifth and eighth innings. In the fifth,
Avery Williams was hit by pitch with two outs before Den Beste homered to right field on a 2-1 pitch.
In the eighth,
Anthony Fernandez reached on an error with one out. With two outs,
Brashad Jones was hit by a pitch before
Kaylor Lewis singled to center field on a 1-1 pitch, scoring Fernandez.
Prairie View A&M returns to action this weekend in a three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference Western Division series at Arkansas-Pine Bluff beginning Friday at 3 p.m. Pvpanthers.com/sportsnetwork will have a radio broadcast of all three games.
