PINE BLUFF, Ark. – The Prairie View A&M University baseball team split a Friday doubleheader at Arkansas-Pine Bluff, losing the opener 10-5 before winning the nightcap 9-4.
Cody Den Beste went a combined 6-for-9 with two runs scored and six RBI in the two games, while
Corbin Jamison went a combined 4-for-7, scored four runs, and stole four bases. In the nightcap,
Edgar Sanchez threw his second straight complete game to earn the win.
The Panthers (17-29 overall, 10-10 SWAC) and Golden Lions (14-27, 9-11) will play the final game of the series Saturday at noon, with the pregame show beginning at 11:45 a.m. at

Game 1 - UAPB 10, Panthers 5: Carson Lee's RBI groundout in the first scoring Avery Wiliams, who reached after being hit by a pitch.
Trailing 7-2 after five innings, the Panthers clawed away at the deficit. Pinch hitter
Tyler Gordon was hit by a pitch. With one out,
Jalyn Baker was hit by a pitch. With two outs, Baker reached second on an error to load the bases. Den Beste tripled to right center to clear the bases to cut the deficit to 7-5 but could get no closer.
Game 2 – Panthers 9, UAPB 4: Sanchez allowed only five hits, four runs, two earned with one walk and four strikeouts, throwing only 96 pitches, 68 for strikes. He retired the first 10 batters in a row to start the game, and, after allowing four runs in the fifth, yielded just two hits and three base runners over the final four innings. Den Beste had a pair of triples and three RBI in victory, while Jamison,
Avery Williams, and Baker each had two hits.
The Panthers never trailed, scoring again in the first inning. Jamison walked to lead off the game, stole second, and scored on an
Avery Williams double for a 1-0 lead.
In the third, Jamison struck out but reached first on a wild pitch, stole second, and advanced to third on a groundout. Den Beste then tripled to center, scoring Jamison. Lee's sacrifice fly to right scored Den Beste for a 3-0 advantage.
A six-run fourth-inning rally, all with two outs, broke the game open. With two outs,
Kaylor Lewis singled through the left side, before
Tyler Gordon walked and Jamison was hit by pitch to load the bases.
Avery Williams singled off the third baseman's glove, scoring Lewis and Gordon for a 5-0 lead. Den Beste then tripled to left center, scoring Jamison and
Avery Williams to extend to a 7-0 lead. Lee then doubled down the right field line, scoring Den Beste.
Steven Williams was then hit a pitch before Baker singled to center, scoring Lee for a 9-0 advantage.
