Women's Indoor Track & Field Flashback

(This is a look back at one of the best performances of the 2016-17 season)

On the completion of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships the Prairie View A&M University women's team finished in third place with 90 points, behind Texas Southern (96 points) and the Champions Alabama State who scored a total of 174 points.

Nekiesha Bailey of PVAMU's women's track and field team set a SWAC Championship record in the high jump event clearing 1.78m. In other field events Jada Curbeam placed sixth in the women's long jump with a jump of 5.55m. Curbeam also posted an eighth place in the high jump with a jump of 1.55 m.

JoAnna Benavidez placed fourth for the Lady Panthers in the 3000 meter run with the time of 11:01.61, while teammate Aimee Hernandez placed sixth with the time of 11:12.84. In the women's distance medley PVAMU's "A" team finished sixth as the team of Alysse Grogan, Darlene Samuels, Noelia Rodriguez, and Benavidez came across the finish line with the time of 14:18.50.

Deonca Bookman finished 2nd in the 200 Meter Dash Finals with a time of 24.44. Takara Coleman placed 2nd in the 400 Meter Dash (56.46), while Rodriguez had a 7th place finish in the finals of the 800 meters, with a time of 2:27.85. A pair of Lady Panthers finished in the top eighth in the one mile run. Benavidez and Grogan placed 5th and 8th with the times of 5:29.13 and 5:37.02, respectively.

Benavidez also paced to 4th place in the 3000 meters and the 5000 meters with times of 11:01.61, and 19:36.91. Bookman finished first in the finals 60 Meter Hurdles obtaining a Gold (8.49), while Folami Williams crossed the line in 4th, with a time of 8.91 seconds after the firing of the starter's pistol.

The quartet of Husniyyah Rogers, Coleman, Bookman and Zakia Johnson won the Gold and the plaque as the winners of the 4x400 meter relay (3:45.82).
