The Prairie View A&M 2016-17 women's basketball team showed a promising start under the tutelage of new head coach Ravon Justice and her staff.
 
A team compiled of four seniors, three juniors, two sophomores and four freshmen was young, but eager throughout the season. The team recorded a 13-18 overall record, 8-10 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference play in Justice's first season at PVAMU.
 
The Lady Panthers held an 11-2 record at the William J. Nicks Building, four of which were non-conference games. 
 
Opening the month of November, the Lady Panthers posted home wins over Nicholls State (69-67) and Bethune Cookman 66-64, along with a win over Marshall (78-68) during the UTRGV Tournament. The team had four losses, including three close defeats at Rice (68-57), SMU (61-54), & UTRGV (82-74). 
 
December's games saw the Lady Panthers earn wins over Sam Houston (75-65) and Texas State (64-60). 
 
PVAMU opened conference play in January and the Lady Panthers posted three wins over Jackson State (73-63), Grambling (51-49) and Alabama A&M (71-47)
 
Although there were some ups and downs the highlight of the season was scoring a game high of 96 points against conference foe Mississippi Valley (96-65) at the Baby Dome. The Lady Panthers picked up three consecutive wins all at home over Ark. Pine Bluff (62-57), Southern (70-63) and Alcorn (69-60). 
 
Entering into the 2017 Toyota SWAC Tournament the Lady Panthers entered as the seventh seed falling up short against in-state rival Texas Southern 65-45 in the first round of the quarterfinals.
